Concord set to appoint Daniel E. Keen new city manager

The City Council expects to appoint Daniel E. Keen as Concord's new city manager, pending completion of contract details and approval of the contract on July 7. Keen comes to Concord from the City of Novato, where he has been the City Manager since 2004. He will start work in Concord in mid-August.

"We are delighted to welcome Dan Keen to the Concord community," said Mayor Bill Shinn. "His background makes him a good fit for our organization."

Former City Manager Ed James, who retired in 2005, has been Concord's acting City Manager since December 2007.

Keen has held two additional city manager positions, for the California cities of Seaside (2000-2004) and La Palma (1995-2000). He also served as Deputy and Assistant City Manager in Norwalk, CA (1988-95), and Community Development Manager in Paramount, CA (1983-88).

Keen holds a Masters Degree in Public Administration and a Masters Degree in Planning from USC, and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology & Political Science from UCLA. He is married to Debi, his wife of 25 years. They have two sons, Robert, 22 and Kevin, 18.
