Concord City Council holds final budget hearing June 22

The Concord City Council will hold its final public hearing on the fiscal year 2010-11 City budget at its regularly scheduled City Council meeting Tuesday, June 22. The meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at Civic Center, 1950 Parkside Dr. The public is invited to attend and comment.

Concord's sales tax and property tax revenues have been drastically reduced due to the recession, and State takeaways of $33 million over the last 10 years have left the City will fewer resources to provide essential City services.

After two Community Priority Surveys and five "Living Within Our Means" public workshops, proposed reductions were developed to balance the budget while matching community priorities. Some of the reductions include:

  • Closing the Police Department's Southern Field Office
  • Reducing maintenance to parks, playfields and medians
  • Withdrawal of City funding from the community grant program
  • Dissolving the Human Relations Commission
  • Reducing funding for school crossing guards by 25%
