Concord selects new Community and Economic Development director
Concord has selected Victoria Walker as its new director of Community and Economic Development Department. Her first day will be Jan. 4. In this role, she will lead the Planning, Building, Transportation, Engineering, and Economic Development & Redevelopment divisions. Community and Economic Development is a new department within the City, consolidating divisions from two previous departments.
“As a result of the budget deficit, our City organization has grown smaller by almost 25 percent. We have worked to streamline our operations, which includes reorganizing some departments. This new department puts all services related to development projects in one place, resulting in more efficient use of our smaller staff,” said City Manager Dan Keen. “Victoria is the right choice to lead the new department because of her expertise in community development, her leadership skills, and her ability to establish partnerships with public and private entities.”
“I am excited to have this great opportunity with the City of Concord,” says Walker. “I look forward to building relationships with the staff and community.”
Walker is currently the Planning Manager for the City of Walnut Creek, where she has worked her way up from Associate Planner (1988-1999) to Senior Planner (1999-2002) to Principal Planner (2003-2008), then to her present position. She also worked briefly as a Senior Planner for the City of San Ramon from 2002-2003, and started her career as an Assistant Planner for the California State Lands Commission and Associate Planner for the City of Salinas.
Walker holds a B.S. in Environmental Planning and Management from U.C. Davis, and an M.A. in Architecture from U.C. Berkeley.
