Monitoring News of COVID-19

The City of Concord is aware of and monitoring the news regarding the coronavirus (COVID-19) and its possible transmission in Northern California.  City officials are following the guidance of the Contra Costa County Health Services Department.

According to the health department, as of February 28, 2020, there is no evidence that COVID-19 is circulating in Contra Costa County. As such, they are not recommending the closure of public facilities at this time.

County health officials will continue to work with state and federal agencies to gather more information and they will update their local partners and the community as they learn more about the developing situation, including through the website: https://cchealth.org/coronavirus/

Health officials are urging people to maintain good hygiene. According to their website, you can minimize your risk of becoming infected or spreading COVID-19 and other respiratory viruses by:

  • Washing your hands with soap and water frequently, and using alcohol-based hand sanitizer when soap and water is not available
  • Covering coughs and sneezes with a tissue or the crook of your elbow (not your hands)
  • Staying home from school or work when you are sick
  • Plan ahead for childcare in case children get sick and need to stay home from school
  • Avoiding travel when you are sick
  • Avoiding touching your face with unwashed hands
  • Limiting unnecessary trips and avoid crowded public spaces when possible
  • Telecommuting when possible
  • If you are sick, wear a mask when you go out in public or visit the doctor

Please continue to visit the County Health site for updates: https://cchealth.org/coronavirus/
