Hawaiian Fusion fundraiser benefits senior programs

The 8th Annual Hawaiian Fusion fundraiser takes place Friday, Sept. 4 at Centre Concord, 5298 Clayton Rd. in Concord.

Funds generated by the event support nutritional programs, human services and a scholarship fund at the Concord Senior Center.

The evening of traditional Hawaiian food and entertainment sells out every year, so those interested in attending are urged to get tickets early.

Headlining this year's show is Nathan Aweau, one-half of the multi-award-winning and internationally renowned duo Hapa.  As a solo artist, Aweau received the Na Hoku Hanohano award three times as "Male Vocalist of the Year" in addition to gaining respect within the Hawaiian music industry as an internationally acclaimed performer.

Dance troupe Halau Hula Ke Aolani O Kamaile, under the direction of Kumu Shawna Noelani Bresler, will also perform.

Tickets are $45 per person or $400 for a table of ten.  All seats are reserved. The ticket price includes a Hawaiian buffet dinner featuring island favorites such as kalua pork, laulau, teriyaki chicken, lomi salmon, and poi.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with no-host bar. Dinner is served at 6:30 p.m.  The show is scheduled to get underway at 8 p.m.

The nutrition program serves over 20,000 hot meals and delivers 25,000 meals to home-bound seniors each year.  The Care Management program offers professional services to hundreds of older persons and their families to maintain their quality of life and ability to live independently.  The scholarship fund provides access to educational and specialized instruction for seniors who are unable to afford the class fees.

Tickets may be purchased at the Concord Senior Center, 2121 Parkside Circle.  For additional information, call (925) 671-3320 or visit  www.cityofconcord.org/hawaiianfusion to register on line.
