Disaster drill planned for Bishop Estates neighborhood Sept. 17

Concord's Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) will conduct a disaster drill on Saturday, Sept. 17 in the Bishop Estates neighborhood off of Concord Boulevard between Bailey Road and Jefferson Street. During the drill, which assumes a powerful earthquake has struck the region, trained citizen volunteers will practice their emergency response skills. The exercise will include more than 100 CERT volunteers.

“We are looking for residents in the Bishop Estates neighborhood who would like to help us with the drill,” says the City's Volunteer and Emergency Services Coordinator Margaret Romiti. “We need people to act as victims, and households that will allow volunteers to inspect gas meters, knock on the door and ask about the status of everyone in the house or about borrowing a wheelbarrow or wagon to transport a ‘victim.’ CERT volunteers working on the drill will be easy to spot in their green vests and hard hats, and will be working in pairs.”

Bishop Estates residents who would like to participate should call (925) 671-3040 or email mgardner@cpd.ci.concord.ca.us. Residents who do not wish to participate should call (925) 671-3036. Those who want more information or who will not be at home but would allow volunteers to use their home should call (925) 671-3040. When calling, please leave your name, street address and phone number.
