Concord Meadow Homes Spray Park opens June 15

The City of Concord will celebrate the grand opening of its first spray park on Friday, June 15 at 10:30 a.m. The new attraction is located in Meadow Homes Park, 1351 Detroit Ave., on the site of a former swimming pool.

The spray park features areas for tots, tweens and teens as well as picnic areas, a bathhouse and outdoor shower. Each of the three areas has a water-related theme, with dolphins and sea creatures in the tot area, a ship's mast, bow of a pirate ship and sunken dingy in the tween area and palm trees with dumping buckets and spray cannons in the teen area.

Several years ago, it became apparent that repairs to the aging Meadow Homes pool, formerly located on the site, would be prohibitively expensive. After a series of neighborhood meetings, residents decided that a spray park would meet the community's needs and add a welcome new feature to Concord's system of 31 parks and playgrounds. The project was not paid for from the City's General Fund, but was funded through East Bay Regional Park District Measure WW funds, a Healthy Communities grant and Parkland Fees.
