City of Concord, California

Downtown Corridors Plan

Project Overview

The City of Concord undertook a complete streets project intended as a follow up to the Downtown Specific Plan, adopted in June 2014. The project was initiated in August 2015 and the Final Downtown Corridors Plan was adopted by the City Council on September 13, 2016. The proposed complete streets framework would connect existing parks and open spaces through a green streets framework that places an emphasis on pedestrian and bicycle circulation and improved landscaping to enhance connectivity and provide for better pedestrian and bicycle opportunities to link neighborhoods to shopping and employment areas.

The project will be incorporated with a number of other related City projects such as the Bicycle, Pedestrian and Safe Routes to Transit Plan, the Central Concord Streetscape Plan, and the Downtown Concord Bicycle Lane Improvements Project.

Thank you to everyone who came out and participated at our public workshops held at Salvio Pacheco Square on November 2nd and February 10, 2016! We received a number of excellent suggestions for design guidelines and design elements to incorporate into the plan. The City submitted an Active Transportation Program grant in June to support preparation of the construction plans and construction of many of the improvements within the Downtown Corridors Plan to assist the City in proceeding with the recommendations of the Plan.
