Teen Classes

There are many fun activities for teens in Concord as well as opportunities to explore and engage in community service, the local job market and City government. Educational opportunities help teens better prepare for academic success in middle school, high school and college.

Counselor In Training (CIT) Program

The Counselor-In-Training Program (CIT) is a 6 week program for teens ages 13-15. Learn valuable job training and leadership skills by working side-by-side with Counselors of the Backyard Explorers Program. Candidates successfully completing the program gets to go on an all-day trip and attend a recognition luncheon to celebrate program graduation. Plus, successful graduates of this program may be eligible in the future to be hired as a Counselor. In the morning hours CIT's participate in implementing activities such as: nature hikes, arts and crafts, outdoor cooking, and games. In the afternoons CIT's will attend mini trips, be involved with integrated team building activities, as well as, leadership excursions and trainings.

Participants must attend two evening training sessions the week of June 6, 2011. Participants must complete a screening process which includes completing an application and an interview. After notification of their admission to the program participants will be required to register, have an updated TB screening and pay program fees. Deadline for applications May 27, 2011. All That & Then Some

The "All That and Then Some" summer program is the perfect answer for everyone! Sign-up now and enjoy the "All That and Then Some" summer fun weekdays from 8:00 am - 6:00 pm! At this safe and supervised program, teens experience fun times with friends through exciting and challenging activities that will stimulate their minds and help keep them active. Registration begins February 15th. Transportation will be provided from Centre Concord, 5298 Clayton Rd. - Departs at 7:45am and returns at 6pm.

Middle School & Afterschool Recreational Programs

The Mt. Diablo CARES After School Program operates at most middle schools in the City of Concord. This program is a collaboration between the City of Concord and the Mt. Diablo Unified School District, which provides both academic and enrichment programming for youth and teens throughout the school year and summer.

Enrichment Activities and Classes

The Parks & Recreation Department also offers enrichment classes and programming throughout the year. Classes include SAT Test Preparation, Online Drivers Education, Guitar, Hip Hop Dance, Teen Babysitting, Performing Arts, and various arts classes. During the summer, middle school teens can participate in the popular All That and Then Some Program, and a full day summer day camp.
